The iMonk on missional street cred
Check out this post for a slap-upside-yo-head message to all the missional claimers. I feel some harshin’ on Driscoll, but we would do well to listen up; being missional is more than style, more than culture, more than method, and if we get too focused on those things then we will end up missing the spirit of mission entirely.
Mission is firstly about love for the world; all means and methods are meant to serve love. At the heart of this love is a compassion for the lost, the confused, and the hurting which leads us to enter into the thick of it, get relational, get sacrificial, get dangerous, and by all means communicate the love of God in Christ.
If we begin to get all tied up and caught up in the style and presentation of a church meeting - don’t get me wrong here - then what happens? The focus is back on us again, and we are two steps down the road of fat, happy, and self-serving evangelicalism that all but ignores the world outside its doors. It is the inside-out church, the one that is so in love with the church that it cannot stand the fact that some people are not a part of it and so goes out vigorously into the world in order to see the kingdom expand - it is that church, the 24-7 church, the Monday morning at the office church, that understands mission because it understands love.
