About

Hi there.

Welcome to the reincarnation of the nuance blog, formerly located here. I’m Zach, the resident blognerd, in case you were wondering.

nuance is a blog that emerges as the digital projection of a physical collective - the nuance small group in Burlington, VT. It began a year and a half ago when Chris thought he really needed to be in a group Bible study. We said, “Okay,” and the rest is history.

But I’ll give you a little more detail…

My wife Kalen and I were in the midst of a difficult departure from the church we’d served in for four years. We feared the transition time. On our way out we met two of the coolest people we’ve ever met, Grant and Rachel. We did lunch. Then dinner. And the rest is history.

Actually, a couple more things… Grant and Rachel knew Buck and Catia. Buck is a pastor at a little church nearby with no young couples. They are a young couple, so they started coming to the Bible study. And so did Sachie.

Oh, and Chris started dating Cassie again. Cassie became a Christian. More friends started showing up. We were all so blessed by this group that we realized that all of us viewed it as church. A few months ago, we decided to start treating it that way, and this has been our main church commitment ever since.

Recently we arrived at a name: dwell missional church. The name is both a nod to the Dwell Conference that Kalen and I attended last spring and a reflection of our most important commitment - to dwell as God’s people in the world, wherever God has placed us, doing God’s work. We want to be incarnational in that sense, just like the Word who became flesh and dwelt among us. We want to be a biblically faithful, culturally relevant, counter-culture community.

Or more simply, a missional community.

Stoked about the journey ahead…
